Magma 1953
Associated Students of the Montana State School of Mines.
The 1953 Annual is proudly dedicated to the past fifty years of meritorious service, which has been the by-word of the "Mines" since that first graduating class of 1903. That year the school had one building and a one-man graduating class. Since then, in order to meet the exigencies of a technological society, it has grown to the creditable dimensions of eight major buildings, and is well known over the world as one of the finest institutions of its kind. Never before, in a fifty-year period of history, has a nation seen such an astounding increase in the need for engineers trained in the mineral field. With world peace so dim in the future, survival has become the motivating force of our mineral industry. It is our hope that in the future, as in the past, the Montana School of Mines will grow with the industry, and that the next fifty years will prove as fruitful as the last.

To the Students of Montana School of Mines:
Here is your MAGMA, still warm from the heat of formation and containing here and there some rich veins and remarkable products of magmatic segregation and differentiation. May it always remind you of happy days, good friends, and satisfying accomplishment! Montana Mines alumni have always been noted for their ability to "pull together" for their school. It's a good idea to keep this book with you as you travel about the world in professional work. Not only will it serve as a directory of school friends; it will also be useful when you want to tell others about your alma mater.
Best wishes for your future!

Magma 1958
Associated Students of the Montana State School of Mines.
Another year has passed and in passing has recorded much in accomplishment, in progress, in change of status. For each of you the record is different, but for all of you there has been the satisfaction of living in a dynamic era.
This past year has been one of improved organization, improved understanding, and a marked revitalization of the ASSM in its role of student government. The student council can feel justly proud of its many accomplishments in the interest of the students on our campus. Such accomplishments don't just happen; they are created through hard work and attention to the many problems wanting solution. Boys grow into men under the stress of responsibility.
This Magma forms a partial history of the year just concluded, that part which deals with people, classes, organizations, and activities. It is a book you will cherish for the rest of your lives; it will be fondly reviewed countless times as the years pass following graduation, each time bringing back in sharp retrospect the year 1957-58 at Montana School of Mines.
To the Seniors I wish bon voyage. Remember always, wherever you go, whatever you do, your Alma Mater is proud of your attainments and holds you dear in its heart.

From the molten magma from which this yearbook borrows its name came all of the elements that form the earth and all that is on the earth today. This borrowed name is possibly the most appropriate title that could have been chosen for this book because it too is composed of many elements that will change and advance the world. These elements, of course, are the students and faculty of the Montana School of Mines. To these future and present engineers. scientists, and world leaders we present this 1962 MAGMA in hopes that it may help preserve the manifold memories of its many owners.
In this issue: Faculty, Students, Events, Mines in the News, Sports, Organizations, etc.

Magma 1963
Associated Students of the Montana State School of Mines.
The MAGMA is the title of the yearbook, published by students of Montana School of Mines. It provides a comprehensive review of all activities, classes, faculty, clubs, fraternities, organizations, and athletics. The history of Montana School of Mines has been a colorful one, making steady progress as each year goes by. The fact that Montana School of Mines is known throughout the world as one of the foremost schools in the field of mineral industries engineering is perhaps due both to fortune and foresight. The selection of Butte was a most happy choice, for in Butte, as in few other places, the student has the opportunity to gain practical experience along with theoretical training. He may do this through part time work in mines, mills, or smelters as well as frequent visits to industrial plants for observation and study of engineering problems and operations.
