PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
For the 2022 Final Insufficiently Reclaimed Sites Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP), amended by RFC-IR-2022-01 (Atlantic Richfield Company, 2022a and Atlantic Richfield Company, 2022b), referenced herein as 2022 IR QAPP and 2022 Final Unreclaimed Sites QAPP (Atlantic Richfield Company, 2022c), referenced herein as 2022 UR QAPP, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) Calibration Check Samples data validation quality control criteria specify two standard reference materials (SRMs) to be used as calibration check samples for XRF metals data validation. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard referenced is SRM 2709a-San Joaquin Soil, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) standard referenced is RCRA 1. For 2021 Unreclaimed Sites and Insufficiently Reclaimed Sites data validation samples (analyzed using the Niton XL3 XRF analyzer), RCRA and NIST acceptance criteria from the field XRF analyzer manufacturer (ThermoScientific) were used to validate the data. Figure 1 shows existing data validation quality control criteria for NIST and RCRA standards only. These XRF calibration check acceptance criteria were obtained directly from the field XRF analyzer manufacturer (ThermoScientific) certificates of calibration.
