Along with revising, editing and proofreading are critical writing processes. Editing centers on the correction of mechanical errors—grammar, punctuation, spelling—and mistakes such as omitted or repeated words and typing gaffes. Proofreading involves double-checking that all these errors, as well as spacing and formatting problems, have been corrected.
