Abstract
Every model has a purpose for understanding, analysis, or demonstration. Mary discusses a few of the models employed in the Gallatin Valley to answer questions about water use, particularly as it pertains to land use changes, surface water, and exempt wells. She discusses why these models were chosen, and how they answer questions about water resources.

Comments
Mary has worked as a modeler for the MBMG in the Groundwater Investigation Program (GWIP) for 8 years. She is a UM graduate with a geosciences degree, focused on hydrogeology. She came to Montana from Virginia to study under the professor who literally wrote the book on groundwater modeling, and 6 years later landed my dream job at the Bureau. She can be described as only slightly obsessed with fly fishing.
