Abstract
Why are invaders stronger than their native counterparts, has been always a central question in invasion ecology. With increasing numbers of public datasets and international col-laborations, we are now able to revisit some classic hypothe-ses and formulate new ones concerning the functional strat-egies of invasive plants. Dr. Liao will talk about the general functional strategies that facilitate plant invasion success basing on her recent works that incorporated global- and continental-scale datasets. She will also demonstrate how a better understanding of the functional aspect of plant inva-sion may benefit control and management of invasive plants, and how citizens and scientists can work together to accelerate the development of large-scale datasets.

Huixuan Liao is an associate researcher in the School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong, China. She also received her BA and PhD degrees from Sun Yat-sen University. She is particularly interested in uncovering the general mechanisms behind plant invasion and understand-ing the mechanisms from a behavioral point of view.
