Abstract
In this presentation, Lloyd Gavin whisks us via flashbacks through his journey from college to the present; brandishing his weaknesses, his evolved understanding of the university’s role and finally, he reveals the gift to a full life his alma mater opened to him.

Lloyd Gavin received his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1973, from The Illinois Institute of Technology under the direction of Professor Gunther Goes. After serving three years on the Mathematics faculty at the Xavier University of Louisiana, his alma mater, Dr. Gavin joined the Mathematics and Statistics faculty at California State University, Sacramento, and retired in 1998. Our speaker always thought of himself as a “teacher”.
